Cottage Cheese Power Bowl - A Quick, Protein-Packed Meal

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • Cottage cheese (2% or 4% for creaminess; low-fat if preferred)
  • Cooked whole grains (quinoa, farro, or brown rice) or oats for a sweet version
  • Fresh vegetables (cucumber, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, spinach, arugula)
  • Fresh fruit (berries, banana, apple, or pineapple for a sweet bowl)
  • Healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts, or seeds like pumpkin, sunflower, chia, or hemp)
  • Protein boosters (hard-boiled egg, grilled chicken, smoked salmon, or chickpeas)
  • Flavor add-ins (lemon juice, lime, fresh herbs, honey or maple syrup, red pepper flakes)
  • Crunchy toppers (granola for sweet; roasted chickpeas or toasted nuts for savory)
  • Seasonings (salt, black pepper, everything bagel seasoning, paprika, za’atar)
  • Optional sauces (tahini, pesto, sriracha, balsamic glaze)

Method

  1. Start with the base: Spoon 3/4 to 1 cup of cottage cheese into a bowl. If you like it looser, stir in a splash of milk or a little olive oil for savory, or a bit of yogurt for sweet.
  2. Add carbs for staying power: For savory, add 1/2 cup cooked quinoa, farro, or brown rice. For sweet, add 1/3–1/2 cup oats (cooked or overnight) or a handful of granola.
  3. Layer in produce: For savory, add sliced cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and a handful of greens. For sweet, top with berries, banana slices, or chopped apple.
  4. Include healthy fats: Add 1/4 avocado, a drizzle of olive oil, or 1–2 tablespoons of nuts or seeds. This makes the bowl more satisfying and better balanced.
  5. Optional protein boost: Add a hard-boiled egg, shredded chicken, smoked salmon, or chickpeas for extra protein. Aim for 2–4 ounces.
  6. Season well: For savory, use salt, pepper, lemon juice, and herbs. Try everything bagel seasoning or paprika for a quick win. For sweet, add a drizzle of honey or maple, plus cinnamon.
  7. Finish with texture: Sprinkle crunchy toppings last—granola, toasted nuts, roasted chickpeas, or seeds. The contrast makes the bowl feel more complete.
  8. Taste and adjust: Add more acid, salt, or heat to make it pop. A squeeze of lemon or a pinch of salt often makes a big difference.
