Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, sliced and frozen
  • 1 cup milk of choice (almond, oat, dairy, or soy)
  • 1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses (unsulfured; blackstrap for a deeper flavor)
  • 1–2 teaspoons pure maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (or 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves or allspice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or cashew butter (optional, for richness)
  • 4–6 ice cubes (optional, for extra thickness and chill)
  • Pinch of salt (optional, to balance sweetness)

Method

  1. Prep the base: Add the milk and yogurt to your blender first to help the blades move smoothly.
  2. Add flavor boosters: Add molasses, maple syrup or honey, vanilla, and nut butter if using.
  3. Spice it up: Sprinkle in cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Add a small pinch of salt if you like.
  4. Finish with fruit and ice: Add the frozen banana and ice cubes.
  5. Blend: Start low, then increase to high until completely smooth and creamy, about 30–60 seconds.
  6. Taste and adjust: Add more sweetener, milk, or spice as needed. Blend again briefly.
  7. Serve: Pour into a glass and top with a dusting of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream for a dessert-style feel.
