High-Protein Chocolate Smoothie

Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk Dairy, almond, soy, oat, or lactose-free. Choose based on protein and preference.
  • 1 medium Frozen banana For creaminess and natural sweetness. Slice before freezing.
  • 1.5–2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-process for smoother, darker flavor; natural cocoa for a brighter cocoa taste.
  • Nut butter or Greek yogurt (2 tablespoons nut butter or 1/2 cup Greek yogurt): Almond, peanut, or cashew butter; or plain Greek yogurt for extra protein.
  • Optional boosters
  • 1 scoop Protein powder Whey or plant-based for extra protein.
  • Sweetener to taste Honey, maple syrup, dates, or stevia/monk fruit if needed.
  • Pinch of salt + 1/2 tsp vanilla extract: Elevates chocolate flavor, trust me.
  • Ice a handful; For extra thickness, especially if your banana isn't very frozen.
  • 1 tablespoon Chia or flax Adds fiber and omega-3s.
  • Espresso shot optional; Mocha vibes without the café price tag.

Method

  1. Peel, slice, and freeze it ahead of time. This is what makes the smoothie thick and creamy without ice cream.
  2. Pour the milk into the blender. Liquids under the blades = smoother blend and less “blender tantrum.”
  3. Add frozen banana, cocoa powder, and your choice of nut butter or Greek yogurt.
  4. Protein powder, vanilla, pinch of salt, and sweetener if your banana isn't very ripe.
  5. Start slow to break up chunks, ramp to high for 30–45 seconds until silky. Add ice for thickness or a splash more milk if it's too thick.
  6. Need more chocolate? Add 1/2 tablespoon cocoa. Too thick? Splash of milk. Not sweet enough? Half a date or a drizzle of honey.
  7. Pour into a chilled glass. Optional: dust with cocoa or top with cacao nibs for crunch.
