Tamarind Yogurt Swirl - Tangy, Creamy, and Refreshingly Simple

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Plain yogurt (Greek or regular; dairy-free is fine)
  • Tamarind concentrate or paste (preferably seedless)
  • Honey or maple syrup (to taste)
  • Ground cinnamon (optional but lovely)
  • Pinch of salt (to round out the flavor)
  • Vanilla extract (optional, for warmth)
  • Fresh fruit like mango, banana, or berries (optional toppings)
  • Toasted nuts or coconut (optional crunch)
  • Granola or crushed biscuits (optional, for texture)
  • Mint leaves (optional garnish)

Method

  1. Prep the yogurt: Add 1 to 1.5 cups of plain yogurt to a bowl. If you like it sweeter, stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey or maple syrup. For extra aroma, add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla.
  2. Make the tamarind swirl: In a small cup, mix 1 to 1.5 tablespoons tamarind concentrate with 1 to 2 teaspoons honey, a pinch of salt, and a tiny pinch of cinnamon. Taste and adjust—tangy but not harsh is the goal.
  3. Adjust thickness: If your tamarind paste is very thick, loosen it with 1 teaspoon of warm water until it’s pourable but not watery.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the yogurt into a serving bowl. Drizzle the tamarind mixture over the top.
  5. Swirl, don’t stir: Use a knife or spoon handle to gently swirl the tamarind through the yogurt. Aim for ribbons, not full mixing.
  6. Add toppings: Scatter mango chunks, sliced banana, or berries. Add toasted almonds, pistachios, coconut, or a handful of granola if you like crunch.
  7. Finish and serve: Add a final drizzle of honey if needed, and a few mint leaves. Serve right away while it’s cool and creamy.
